Best known for his annual Worst Dressed List, which topped Camilla Parker-Bowles and Victoria Beckham this year, Mr. Blackwell had ridiculed more historical characters such as Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor in the past. He published an autobiography in 1995, From Rags to Bitches, which chronicles his beginnings as Richard Selzer in Brooklyn, New York. Only after he moved to Hollywood in the 1950s, did he change his name to Richard Blackwell.
The fashion critic died of complications from an intestinal infection at Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Los Angeles. He had never fully recovered from his collapse in early August, which brought him to the hospital in a coma.
